Why Are There Kids With Masks On Outside?

So I know I said I was going to have my Halloween show, but I need another week or two to prepare. But it IS going to happen.

Here is a little demo I made today while just messing around with some samples. It's called "Escapes." Lyrics below:

You can't escape...
Come back to the black hole...

Meh, I don't know. It's something. Happy Halloween everyone!!

Better Than The Last Update, Hey?

Anyways who ever is reading, as you know I have been recording new material for an album to be called "Culture Shock." For a very long time, it was really hard for me to make music. But when I'm working on CS, I'm overflowed, proud. I think this will definitely show for something...whatever that might be.

SO...around this time last year, the girls and Jer and I tried to through a Halloween show in my garage with no luck. This year, we plan on tackling this problem. None of the girls, Jer or myself even have had to chance to play live. So I'm done the duty of working up a setlist of songs I will be able to play with "bare" equipment. Point is, it'll work...and it'll be badass. Here is my setlist:

01. Smoke Vines
02. Ripped Tape
03. Bedroom Ritual
04. Garbage
05. Phantasma
06. Psychic Sagittarius
07. No Two Stars Alike (Version II)

I'm going to playing this show probably only in front of a handful of people, but I don't mind.

Updateness From The Current That Is Long Overdue

So I'm chilling with Alexis, talking about a show we're going to go to this Saturday with the band and about the next Spiid album, "Culture Shock." Consider it started, day 1, today. Consider it the polar opposite of "Eloise," my nostalgia album. This piece is more focus on the current, present. The effects of living in 100 year old miner's houses, copper ghosts, tourist traps and grey stained glass cathedrals we have all over the place. November release, I started the night with recording a few demos:

01. Ambien Vault Lock
02. You Live In A Brick House
03. Get Bruised
04. Leaf Muse
05. Beef Beats
06. Phonesex (feat. Alexis Pierce)
07. Comic Mischief (feat. Alexis Pierce)
08. The Hour
09. Audible Germs
10. And Repeat, And Repeat, And Repeat

I will be posting more frequently, revealing the titles of each demo I have worked on for this project. When I think I have enough solid material, I'll master the final product and release it.

Peace and chicken grease!!

Virutal 7 Inch #2

Here are two fresh new songs that are the result of my morning. I never thought I'd post another Virtual 7 Inch. Also, I think I got lucky with how well the album art and the songs actually turned out.

Haiku Set #1

I know I've posted a poem on here before with promises to post more. This summer, I've been doing quite a bit of reading and writing. Mostly I've just been reading a book of haiku's by Jack Kerouac. I thought I would share a couple of haiku's I've thought of during everyday stream of consciousness.

Camp meditation,
fire and wood burn so for you,
I would burn as well.

Breathe as deeply,
as if you have just run so far,
I have been running.

Recall being young,
sometime in the late night,
and then it fades away.

P.S. I know I said that The Ephemerals album would be the next release, but it seems to be taking longer than expected. I'm positive it's well worth it...or maybe just weird as fuck. Either way, it's going to be an awesome album. I'm also working with the band for another release and doing some smaller, personal Spiid stuff before I release anything too big or whatever.

Peace and chicken grease.

I'm Back!

...Hmm, well it seems every summer so far some unavoidable situation keeps me away from truly crafting certain aspects of my music. Well just like last summer, I've been working up a batch of songs I'll be editing and sharing in the short future. I have to say that a lot of it is Spiid material, but there is some new stuff with the band. And the next release is going to be The Ephemerals album. And probably the last release for the project. But we'll see...

It's so good to have the internet again.

Dogs Are Cool, Deerhunter Cover

Jeremy and I decided to record this about an hour or so ago, it only took us two tries since it is a relatively easy song to cover. Jer was on drums, I sampled the original track and edited it and had it playing during the recording while I sang and played with the effect pedal. Hope you like it because it's just a very small taste of what we have in store.

The Ephemerals album we've been working on for quite some time has picked up speed and we're looking at 12 or 13 tracks so far that Jer and I are pretty comfortable with sharing. It's very...well...I've never done some of this kind of stuff before. It might be a little weird, but I'm sure you'll dig it. It's full of high frequency orgies, "psuedo"-screamo-noise chaos, free-form pedal effect jams, and a lot of awesome, crazy, stoner fun. We've also got new Hooker Vision artist Hostage Pageant featuring in an amazing ear splitting jam.

It's called "Nothing, I Know" and we should have it done real soon.

Overdue For An Update

It's been quite some time since I've posted anything on the blog. Since school is now over and it is officially Summer, I've had a lot more time for recording. The Ephemerals album has kicked off and should be done shortly. The original "artist-collage" concept was killed off due to the lack of contributions.

I've also had time to sketch out the next couple of Spiid works. Untitled, and recorded over the month of May, my next album is a completely different face and style for Spiid. I just can't wait to see what everyone thinks of it.

All of this new stuff will be coming as soon as possible!

Here is my new recorder I bought especially to record the final drafts of the next Spiid album:

Prom Sucks EP

To pretty much just sum it up, this is the result of 3 stoned friends without prom dates. Just kidding. None of us wanted to go. It was a joke idea to record a Prom EP at first, but when we all sat down together, the fresh ideas kinda flowed out. Angel didn't help at all with any of these songs, and I think that blows because she's the bass, the foundation. Jeremy did a great job of keeping the tempo and everything.

Update From Prom Night

Just kidding. Things have been way too stressful and busy lately. But I'm hoping you guys will be happy to know that a new In The Jaws EP will be coming very soon called the "Prom Sucks EP," Alexis, Jeremy and I recorded it over Prom Night without Angel. We always said we would just get smashed and have our own Prom party, but we never did. Instead, we recorded some loose, Ghostattica-esque type songs. I'll have that up in the next couple of days or so.

By the FUCKING way, can ANYONE tell me why I keep getting Asian porn comments on my comments section?

The Night Owl's Day Dream

I began working on this in mid-winter, January. Like I said before, I ran through several different drafts of the album. And out of all the different types of sketches I tried I took parts from all of them and put it in this album. In a few of the songs, it's hard to understand my voice. I tried to use the muddy reverb to hide my voice as like an instrument, or ambient add-on to the song. I tried a few different things here, there is more beat orientated songs, there is more ambience all done with mostly my effect pedal, keyboard and guitar. After the many different tries following January, I finished it over Spring Break and decided to release it on my birthday since it was close enough.

I wanted this to turn out to be a sort of audio kaleidoscope where everything inside isn't exactly pretty. Not just colorful shapes and lights. The quality is a bit better. The flow is pretty interesting...it almost runs in a pattern flow of different types of sounds, see if you pick it up, man.

New Spiid Album, April 7th

Back in January, during the Awesomeous Coolemous project, I started a little something of my own for Spiid. A few times a week since Jan, I've been testing, retesting and running through several different sketches of my next album. Unhappy with all of them. I called it "The Night Owl's Day Dream." The concept was the difference in night and day from the view of an insomniac, to put it simply. But something else bubbled from the brew. On April 7th, the end of Spring Break, and my 19th birthday, I'm going to release the most mind-fucking Spiid album yet. After Ghostattica, I began an interest in bedroom recording. Since then, I have recorded 6 individual album works that I intend to call my own and never let them see the light of day.

But all of that practice and experimentation has given me new peepholes into my creativity. I want this to be considered the manifestation of an Aries mentality. Not all Aries are alike. But this new album really dives into the sonic-psyche I've been trying to peel away. Instead of hiding the scare, I'm going to share it.

Awesomeous Coolemous

First off, the title comes from a strange story of the band sitting together and Angel telling us a story of a horrible porno she has seen and one of the actors said the line "Awesomeous Coolemous." We all joked and thought that would be a cool album title. I didn't actually think the title would stick, but it did. But there are so many other more important things than titles. We all had a lot of fun making this...and a lot of stress...haha. We took our time and learned how to work like a band. We must have run through several different sketches of this album. We all wrote took place in writing the songs, adding input, etc. There really isn't anything like working with a band. It's been the most challenging piece I, and the rest of us have worked on. We tired to escape using the computer for special effects as must as possible, and if I do say, probably 90% of this was recorded completely raw in my bedroom. We really worked harder on song structure here and I hope you'll be able to hear that.

I want to dedicate this album to Angel. Here's to our work, and how awesome of a friend you've been and that I hope you'll be with us this Summer.

A New "Song"

This is a song Jer and I recorded one afternoon after school last week. It's pretty basic and noisy. We recorded a couple of other songs that day too. Only using my guitar, an effect pedal, drums, and a ghetto mic stand. Consider this a taste of what is to come?

Fiend

Also...all of the songs for Awesomeous Coolemous are complete. I just need to get around to the final touch ups (although it doesn't really need any) and finding some album art. We've been working on this for quite some time, I just wanna make sure it's just right.

Newest Project And Update

Before Spiid, I used the moniker Grace Budd, creating what I called "music" with shitty techno samples, an ancient acoustic guitar, various household items and a little creativity. As of a couple of days ago, Jeremy, our drummer, and I began a new project that we want to follow in the veins of Grace Budd.

http://www.myspace.com/theephemerals

So in result, here are The Ephemerals. No structure, no plots, no plans, everything we've done and want to do is for the sake of experimentation of "noise." I feel like things with Spiid and ITJOADL have gotten too "serious" and I miss the freeform, ya dig? There is no rejection of ideas of any kind in this space.

On a side note, the next In The Jaws Of A Dandy Lion album, Awesomeous Coolimus, is very close to completion. We've been working very hard every weekend since November of last year on this one. We've only heard nothing but great things about what people think of the new material and I can't wait to blow everyone's minds.

Spiid On The Radio!

So a while ago I was asked by this very rad guy named Pat if I would be interested in having a song of mine played on his radio show. Well, I got it played. And here it is!

http://www.breakthruradio.com/index.php?show=9050

If you'd like to listen, the airdate of the show is January 13, 2009. And my song exactly at 44:31. What I'm even kinda more pumped about is the fact that he played one of my favorite songs, "Smoke Vines." So it'd mean a lot if everyone took a listen. :) Not just to me but all the other very interesting, unknown artists he features as well.

This is my face right now:

Back On The Wagon

After some much needed time away from each other after our big disappointing ordeal, we're happy to say that we're going to continue the recording of Awesomemous Coolimus this weekend. Our last practice was far too stressful when the show ended up falling through. A few good things came from our last session though, like this redone version of "A Labyrinth Of My Own." I'm playing similar keyboard keys here, Jer is on drums, Angel on bass, and Alexis singing with effect pedal delay blooms. Enjoy.

Updateness

I just kinda wanted to let everyone know the status of the next In the Jaws of a Dandy Lion record. As of right now, after a few practices, we have 11 songs done and roughly 2 or 3 demos we're still working on. And we're not stopping here. With Ghostattica, we recorded over 70 different songs. Most of them were soundscapes, but still, we plan on having many more practices and many more tracks for the new one. Any positive expectations for what's coming should be killed right now. This is a forewarning. We got bigheads when we got a drummer and we expected this record to be amazing, full of energy, etc. But what we're finding out is that this is basically a stepping stone record. A stepping stone to being able to record, function and work together as a band.

None of us besides Angel have played in a full band together before and we're finding it very difficult, but very fun at the same time. The ideas just bounce all over the place because we all very different people. So maybe saying "kill your expectations" was a little strong.

Skeletons Video

I love this song, one of my favorites off of their new album. I never envisioned the song in this way before though. Very awesome video. I recommend full screen mode and an optional hit of acid.

Poem #1

I thought it would be a neat little idea since I'm reviewing a collection of my poetry for something school related that I should post a poem every now and then. I know you guys have seen (heard) my musical aspects, but not so much with my writing...

"Viper-esque"

It was a splendid ride. And if it has to end,

I want it to end when I've earned more soul than any buddaha -

after I was muted by thunder. And still bolder than the throwing stones.

Only hurt by karma cuts. And still a piece in the belief of peace.

Even in my dangers.

Sowing for a season. Watered the plants everyday,

until my eyes were dry. Lips cracking.

Snaking eyes. Hint and clue, the same.

Then out of pinned hole windows -

only one eye at a time. It was gun powder confetti.

That's where I want the oblivion,

flat on my back, under drifted rag sparks.

It'd tingle my spine, just a little.

Trees grew, roots mimic to ring.

And flesh moved like primal gears; the first conductors of "The Engagement."

It did start with a snake, with dense venom by mouthfuls.

End; with a tail swallowed. Shouldn't it go on?

I can smell it's blood-jet stink.

With a rib of Eve's, you're a thorn in the side.

Eyeing from the grass.

I wish for the same rush; slithering like a parchment scroll.

Bass of the Mushroom EP

With practice over this last Saturday, and approval from all members, there really isn't any point in waiting anymore. We started recording this back in November. And it's been done since mid-December. The title came from the idea that we wanted to utilize Angel and her bad-ass bass skills a little more than we did on the album. We kept this a little more raw, and tried to use the type of experimentation we used on Everything Under a Mushroom...hopefully you'll be able to pick up on that. I think the songs are kinda hard to get into, but I'm actually really proud of this material. My favorite track is Laser Baked. All of the keyboard and guitar sounds are from me. While Angel provided bass, and Alexis wrote and sang these songs. Nightstalking is a redone outtake from Ghostattica.

Sick Day Songs

Here a couple of songs I made to today to kinda embrace being ill. The first and third track are some samples I took while spending time with our drummer with special effect cuts of conversations around my school. Track two is a distorted, reverb conversation with Alexis and Angel. I transformed these into mini sonic sickness soothing tracks, sort of...
